As a joint contribution towards Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan and Swachh Vidyalaya campaign, Volkswagen Finance Private Limited and NGO, Habitat for Humanity India, have built a sanitation complex for CSI Higher Secondary School for the Deaf in Mylapore, Chennai. The 322 square feet sanitation which consists of 4 urinals, 8 lavatories and an incinerator, will cater to nearly 180 students.
The CEO-MD of Volkswagen Finance Private Limited, Patrik Riese said, “Sanitation is the pre-requisite for a healthy and progressive future, even more so when it concerns the generations to come. We understand the importance of this cause and extend our whole hearted support.”
In addition to this, Habitat for Humanity will also conduct a three phased Behaviour Change Communication Program to raise awareness about the right hygiene practices. Stressing on the importance of instilling sanitation and hygiene within students at an early stage, the NGO’s MD, Rajan Samuel said, “We believe that access to sanitation is a fundamental right of every individual and our work is aligned with the vision of Swachh Bharat. We thank Volkswagen Finance Private Limited for the support and are positive that in future we will be able to reach out to more people and children across the country.”
James Albert, the headmaster of the school said, “Access to safe sanitation is one of the most important challenges our country is facing. We are happy to see organisations such as Habitat for Humanity and Volkswagen Finance Private Limited who are contributing to the Government of India’s mission creating a Swachh Bharat.”
